Step 3: Submitting Media

Note: It is important that you have fully read and understand the “Acceptable Use and Submission Guidelines” before submitting. In order to keep this site within the boundaries of ‘Section 107 of the Copyright act’, we must strictly enforce these guidelines. Thank you for your understanding and your cooperation. We greatly appreciate it.
Choosing a category

The first thing you will be asked to do is to select a category/concentration that your media submission falls under. This is mostly just an umbrella category related to a specific major. For instance, “Psychology” is a broader topic of many subtopics related to the field/concentration. The subtopics will fall under the next section of ‘Concepts Portrayed’. Choose the most appropriate category for your submission. If your post falls under multiple categories, please submit them as separate submissions. Thank you.

Entering in your post title and concepts/subtopics

First enter in your post title. It can be anything you would like, as long as it is related to your topic. For instance, “The Simpsons- ‘Lisa the Skeptic'”, is in reference to the TV show name and episode of the submission. Please do not add any icons or other information to the title, our system does this automatically.

A piece of media might be fall under one particular category, but exemplify multiple topics within that realm of curricula. For example, in relation to psychology, one piece of media might showcase the “in-group-bias”, as well as “cult and conspiracy theories”. If one were to type this in, it would look like this “in-group-bias, cults and conspiracy theories” (Separate each one with a comma).

*Please be sure to spell everything correctly in order to better categorize your submission”*

Selecting Media Type and Providing Proper Source Information
Selecting Media Type

Please select the appropriate media type from the available options listed on the submission page. Once you select a media type, more information/fields will show based on the type of media you select. For example, selecting “Audio File” will show more options to submit as a “podcast episode”, “song”, etc…, to help categorize it better. In the image below, we use “Video” as the example.

Providing Source Information

Once you have selected the media type and category, please provide as much information as possible about the source. Different types of media/sources will yield different fields.

Select how you would like to share the media

You can choose an option to best share the media you wish to provide, considering it aligns with our Acceptable Use and Submission Guidelines. There are currently four different options to choose from:

File Upload

File uploads are direct uploads of files such as images and videos for users to download. We do not offer the ability to stream videos files to minimize the use on the site’s bandwidth and avoid abuse of our services. Please note that we have a file size limit of 512mb per file. Also, all files are subject to moderation and removal at our discretion.

Video Embed (Preferred Option)

If you are sharing a video, it is preferred you first look for a source that is already uploaded on a website such as “Youtube, Dailymotion, or Vinemo”. If not, if allowed, please use one of these services as our server is not equipped to handle direct video streaming at the moment. As time goes on and as the site hopefully progresses, we plan on bringing in streaming ability in the near future. For this, please simply placed the HTML embed code into the field.

Link to External Content

You can also link to an external source, such as a website or Youtube video page as well if you prefer. Please just make sure the site you are linking to is safe and non-malicious.

No Media Share, Just a Synopsis

Sometimes we don’t have the media source to share, can’t find it, or simply just do not have the time to find it, download it, and share it. No worries! We are a database focused on academic value first, not entertainment. The real importance is the synopsis you submit that explains how the particular piece of media exemplifies a specific educational topic.

Writing your synopsis

The final and most important step is to write a brief synopsis on how the media content that you are submitting relates to the particular topic that you are categorizing it under. Please be clear, concise, and use proper grammar when writing your synopsis. Do not just write one or two sentence(s); your synopsis should at least be one or two complete paragraphs that showcase a clear explanation and understanding of the relationship between the submitted media content and the concept/concentration being categorized. This will help other users get a better understanding of how the content relates to the topic they are looking for, as well as help the site/your submission stay in compliance with Section 107 of The Copyright Act.

Section 107 Disclaimer

Before you can hit submit, you will be required to agree to a disclaimer that explains the content that you are submitting is meant solely for education purposes and meets all the requirements/steps listed above. This also means you are submitting and agreeing to Section 107 of the Copyright Act in good faith.
